Eyes on the future
Message from FDI President Orlando Monteiro da Silva & Executive Director Jean-Luc Eiselé.

Corporate partners can rest assured: FDI is back on track again! In 2012, its finances returned to surplus after a number of difficult years. Better still, projected results for 2013 confirm and reinforce last year's achievement.

And it’s not just about money! Stalled projects have been either kick started or kicked out, to be replaced by new programmes more relevant to the dental profession in today's world.
As for the 2013 FDI Annual World Dental Congress (Istanbul, 28 to 31 August 2013), see below for the latest good news.

Record numbers at FDI 2013 Istanbul

FDI 2013 Istanbul already looks like a record breaking event. Exhibition reservations are the highest in five years, with 5,600 square metres already sold and 239 exhibitors confirmed - respectively up over 50% and 13% on Hong Kong 2012. Early Bird registrations total over 5,000, up 93% from 2012, with 109 countries represented.

Alongside the major companies in oral health and numerous specialty suppliers, the 2013 exhibition will feature five National Pavilions: P.R. China, Germany, Korea (Republic of), United Kingdom and United States.

In short, the ideal place to present your products and services! Can you afford to miss the dental event of 2013?

Vision 2020: towards implementation

The FDI Council has approved the Vision 2020 Global Task Team recommendation to move forward with two project components: 'Collaborative Practice' and 'Indicators and Surveillance'. Two technical workshops will be held back to back in Geneva in June and their outcomes published and made public during the FDI Annual World Dental Congress in Istanbul, 28 to 31 August 2013.

The collaborative practice workshop, set to take place on 19 and 20 June, will launch the project. The project’s overall aim, under the leadership of the FDI Dental Practice is to derive a tool from successful existing models of collaborative practice for carrying out advocacy within health authorities and national governments.

The indicators and surveillance workshop will be held on 20 and 21 June. Led by Profs Juan Carlos Llodra, Chair of the FDI Public Health Committee, and Denis Bourgeois, the project seeks to create an oral health database. Such a database will facilitate the definition of the current and future status of oral health worldwide and enable individuals and stakeholders to make evidence-based decisions.

Implementation of Vision 2020 is made possible through grants from Colgate, Henry Schein, Unilever, Johnson & Johnson, Sunstar and Ivoclar Vivadent. Contact FDI for further Vision 2020 sponsorship opportunities.
